About Us
Recently at the dinner table, we were using our dinner cards by the Box Girls and the question that was asked was 'What one word would you use to describe your family?' The one word that kept popping up at our dinner table that night was 'love'. Truly, that is one of the words that really describes our family well -- and I mean it by no means of a cliche. We genuinely love each other and it starts with my husband, Tony, and flows through the rest of us. God has done something awesome in our hearts and we don't take it for granted.
We're a blended family -- 2 boys (MJ & C) by Tony and me and another son (Anthony) who is an adult now with a daughter of his own. I came into Anthony's life when he was around 9 and when we got married, I became mom #2. He calls me mom and I consider him my son. His mom and I have a great relationship and of course as many blended families do, we've had challenges but we've been blessed to work through them.
Tony and I have been married for 12 years and he's 10 years my senior. I was 'adopted' by my uncle and his wife shortly after my mom died when I was 5 so the option provided by adoption is a big deal to me. It's been great to learn at the onset of our marriage that it was definitely something that my honey was open to.
We live in the MD/DC/VA area. I work full-time for a church and love, love, love what I do. I'd work there for free (shhh...please don't tell them--smile) but I am so blessed to get a paycheck to help support our growing family. I really believe I have the BEST church and Pastor ever created who is not afraid to take risks and is generous beyond belief. Our staff spends so much time laughing and working together that we really consider ourselves family.
We started the adoption journey in August 2009 (with the thought of pursuing international adoption) and have been chugging along ever since.
I love seeing how I have evolved. I've traded my high heels for flats and love living a casual life....but don't get it twisted (smile)....I'll put on a pair of heels and a skirt in a minute to get sexy for my husband. We have a great marriage that has not gone without its challenges but we're excited about how God has helped to bind us together to stay committed and be transparent with other couples to hopefully encourage them too.
So that's us! Tell me about you by clicking here.
