Focus Friday: Children in Haiti

This week, there has been so much heartache for Haiti.  Prayers and support has poured out all across the globe to help with the devastation.  In no way can I begin to imagine the pain experienced by those who are there.  Especially for the children affected, I can't wrap my head around the emotions they must be going through right now.  As you pray and support Haiti, please remember the children.  I don't know why God allows pain like this but what I do know is that He is sovereign.  What I also know is that we can unite in praying for Haiti.  While it is important that we use our financial and physical resources to support Haiti, prayer is the most effective tool that we have.  I'm reminded of the Lord's words to Solomon 2 Chronicles 7:13-16:

"When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place. I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there."

Let me be clear that in sharing that verse that I am in NO WAY implying that Haiti is a land of sinners and so we must pray...please get off of that!  If that were my point, then hold on to your seat because each of us should be experiencing our own little earthquake right now!  (smile)  I'm simply emphasizing the importance of prayer.

Take a look at Save the Children's discussion about the children of Haiti during this turmoil:

Below, I have listed the names of reputable organizations if you are interested and moved to donate. In many cases, support is as quick as a text message from your mobile phone.  In the words of Haitian Born music star Wyclef Jean, "idle hands will only make this tragedy worse".
